FAQs

I MAKE MUSIC. HOW CAN I PLAY AT A BEAT HAPPENING?

A Beat Happening is entirely produced by local Portland artist Luvjonez (Jonas Angelet) and co-hosted by Free Tillman (Lee H. Tillman) and each lineup is curated to bring artists from all genres into the same space to network, support each other, and build community. We encourage all artists to come to shows, introduce yourself to Luvjonez and/or Lee, and meet us directly before we book you on a lineup.

We are not an open mic or a “pass the aux” event.

IS A BEAT HAPPENING A BUSINESS OR NON-PROFIT, ETC.?

No. We are a completely volunteer run, community building event series and have been since we started in 2017. We make no money. We have no funds. Any expenses are paid out of pocket and recouped via merch sales or donations. This is entirely a labor of love, to elevate local artists, to shine a light on emerging and established artists in our city. We record audio and video of all artists and share to our Youtube channel to help archive and promote PDX talent.

ARE A BEAT HAPPENING EVENTS FREE?

Yes. All of our events are free, all ages, and open to the public. Filming and photos are encouraged. Tag @abeathappening if you share things, so we can see it.

WHERE ARE THE EVENTS HELD?

L'Atelier Yaffe is a full service cafe, creperie, art gallery and event space with tables, chairs, restrooms and a patio. Located at 111 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland, OR 97232.

ARE ABH SHOWS A CONCERT SERIES?

We focus on community building, so we are not a typical concert and more of a showcase. We encourage any guest artist on our lineups to play their music however they want - whether original work or favorite songs. We want artists to share their own personal work with our crowds.

WHAT IS THE CAPACITY LIMIT OF YOUR SHOWS?

Our events are free and open to the public, so you can bring kids, pets, neighbors, parents, friends and anyone else. Our events can host up to 300 people at a time. There are no current capacity limits, so bring friends and family, and anyone who might be interested in supporting local musicians, beatmakers and DJs.
