UPCOMING SHOWS

Because our focus is on community building and showcasing each artist’s work equally, we ask that you attend a few of our regular monthly shows to both meet the ABH team (Luvjonez and Free Tillman) but also see how we run our shows.

We are not a typical concert or party, we want people to meet each other, share their work, and support your local artists.

We record videos and audio of all sets, for our Youtube channel, so every lineup is curated months in advance with intentional balance of gender, identity, genre, and all levels of experience.

We provide a PA system, table to stage your gear on and a single mic and mic stand. While we have an audio engineer, we do not provide cables for your gear, so we ask all artists to bring your own equipment and any cables you normally need to play (aux cord, XLR, etc.).

Each show is 3 hours total, with 6 artists each, and everyone gets equal 25 minute sets to play whatever you like, from original production (beats, remixes), original songs, covers) to DJ sets or favorite genres, exclusive mixes, etc.

Essentially, we encourage DJs to play the tracks you never get to play for a crowd, chill songs, favorite songs, favorite remixes, etc. If you are a house DJ but really love lofi hip hop, play that! If you make beats, and never get to rhyme or sing for a crowd, do that!

We provide space for you to showcase your skills and personality, so we have no rules other than the 25 minute limit.

Yes, we encourage anyone who plays a show, who may have merch or albums to sell, to bring it to the show. We provide a merch table with ABH merch, and all artists are welcome to do the same.

ABH has moved locations several times, but our current home is L’Atelier Yaffe (pronounced Ah-telly-yay Yah-fay) event space and art gallery lounge, a Black-owned cafe, lounge, art gallery, and event space located at 111 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland, OR 97232.

We also occasionally do pop-ups at various sites around the city, like Portland Center Stage, Portland Art Museum, OMSI, EXT.606 Recording Studio, and more.

LUVJONEZ (Founder)

Luvjonez is a founder and current cco-host of A Beat Happening. He is an instrumental hip hop beatmaker/producer and artist/illustrator who performs under the stage name Luvjonez. He has released many instrumental albums, EPs, and singles available on Bandcamp and all streaming services, as well as his website www.luvjonezmusic.com . When he's not working on music, you can find him at art galleries, live music shows, museums, and traveling the globe.

FREE TILLMAN (Co-Host)

Free Tillman (Lee H Tillman) is a music producer, sometimes rapper, and comedian now based in Portland, Oregon. Balancing music and comic shows all around the city, and popping up at festivals around the country, Free always brings a mix of humor and calm in everything he produces.
